Debunking Travel Myths with Cori: Destination Wedding Edition

Hi, I’m Cori – Your Personal Destination Wedding/Honeymoon and Luxury Travel Concierge!

Hello, and welcome to my community! I am guessing you probably reached my page either because you were googling “Destination Weddings Pros and Cons,”… or you recently said “Yes!” and started your research on Wedding Venues, Photographers, Caterers and the likes and began to realize how quickly a wedding can add up $$$!  Like it or not, an average wedding in the US costs around $28K and for many newly engaged couples that is a bit of sticker shock when they find out that their wedding could essentially be a down-payment on a new house!

So you began an alternate search, and landed on perhaps a Destination Wedding, and while you saw some pros, there was a nagging feeling and lots of myths floating on the interwebs about “Why You Should Not Have a Destination Wedding.” Well let me help you from going down the Google Search Rabbit Hole – I have consolidated (AND Debunked) the Top Five (5) Myths of Destination Weddings for your review. Hopefully you have a warm beverage in hand, and you can relaxingly sip as you read along!

Myth #1: All Destination Weddings are the Same

(Insert Dwight Schrute here) “FALSE!” This is could absolutely be no further from the truth… to keep The Office puns going, no matter if you are into “Bears, Beets, or Battlestar Galactica” the possible destination wedding locations are endless. Are you someone who loves the Beach? Let’s look at resorts and venues that will have the picture-perfect sunset ceremony somewhere tropical. Enjoy the city and its nightlife? Then let’s take a look at locations that will keep you and your guests going to all the coolest and trendiest places it has to offer. Or have you been dreaming of seeing those ancient ruins in some far-off country? Why not incorporate that dream with your Dream Day?! All that is limiting your vision is your imagination (okay and budget – fine… that’s my husband the financial manager of my business talking)

Myth #2: None of my Family and Friends Will Want to Travel to My Destination Wedding

If I may quote the famous words of Benjamin Barry, “Bullshit!” (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) No more untrue words have ever been spoken… for one your family and friends will want to be right there beside you to celebrate your new love and life beginning. Secondly, they secretly will be thrilled that you are giving them a REASON TO TRAVEL! Not only is the demand increasing in 2023, but it’s almost back to pre-pandemic levels according to Forbes.com Whether by choice, or due to travel restrictions, many of your family and friends curbed travel over the last 2 years… do them a favor and get that vacation for them on the books!

Myth #3: You Have to Leave the Country to Have a Destination Wedding

Wrong again… man we are just out here kicking some destination wedding myth booty!... No you don’t have to go to another country to have an incredible dream destination wedding, you can do it right here in the Continental United States. Thinking of an adults-only affair, Vegas or NYC anyone?! Want something more low-key and small town charm, nothing like the Southern US… and then for those who would like a family affair, Southern California or Central Florida offer great options to have your wedding and then enjoy a “Familymoon” together. That is exactly what my husband of almost 20 years and I did, we held our destination wedding in Orlando, FL at Lake Eola and then enjoyed time with our newly blended family celebrating at Walt Disney World!

Myth #4: I’m Going to Miss Out on My Romantic Honeymoon – Who Wants to Honeymoon with Family?!

I completely understand your concern with this one… I mean come-on it’s supposed to be the beginning of your new life with your new love, nothing can kill a mood more than being around family. BUT that doesn’t have to be case with a destination wedding, because typically when you have a destination wedding you are incentivized by the resort or venue to have people attend. Which means you can get great perks and upgrades to more romantic accommodations away from where your family and friends are staying… along with the help of your trusted Travel Concierge (wink wink) who will work with your on-site wedding coordinator to make sure you are surrounded in romance during your stay.

Myth #5: Destination Weddings are too Expensive

This is my favorite one to debunk! Not only is this not true, but it is typically a cost savings to have a destination wedding! Many resorts offer Free Wedding Packages with Sandals Resorts (Adults Only) and Beaches (Family Inclusive) Resorts being some of my favorite properties to work with. While you can have a beautiful ceremony with their inclusive wedding package (on stays of 3-nights or more) you have the option to customize your wedding exactly like you want! They even give you the opportunity to come and visit the resort in advance (at an extremely discounted rate) to plan your upcoming wedding in-person! (virtual options are also available)

Whew! That was a lot of myth-busting in a short amount of time… thanks for continuing to the end! Hopefully this provides some comfort for you as you move forward with your decision in a destination wedding, and as always I am here if you need any information or have questions regarding my site and content community.
